OUR HISTORY

Congleton History Society was formed in 1963 with the intention of producing a history of the town to mark the 700th anniversary of Congleton gaining its Market Charter. This resulted in the publication of  W B Stephens' History of Congleton in 1970 in plenty of time for the Charter Year celebrations of 1972. (The Book is now out of print and used copies command a significant premium)

Following publication of the book the society continued with new objectives - to promote the understanding of history in general and particularly that of Congleton and the surrounding area.

Half a century on we continue to undertake research, publish booklets and work closely with Congleton Museum. We meet in New Life Church, West Road, Congleton CW12 4EY

on the 2nd Wednesday of the month from September to May to present talks by members and visiting speakers  - visitors are always welcome!
